This Bitch Can Stitch

That's right, I am now a chick with sticks! Ok, I am finally doing something I have wanted to do forever. I taught myself to knit in an hour. That's got to be some kind of record, right? Just kidding. :-) It really was just easier than I thought and I wish I had tried sooner. I am of course, starting out by making a scarf-- one that I actually need because I hear nights in South Africa are cold and so my neck will be warm.

I bought the book "Stich 'n Bitch", not because of the title, seriously, but because it seemed to explain things better than the other books I looked at. It was a good choice because I was knitting in no time! I will post pictures of the scarf when I'm done.

My question to you: do you knit or crochet? How did you learn? (I am hoping some people learned from a source a little more special than a book with the word "bitch" in the title. Maybe from a grandmother?) Oh, and after I told my grandma about the book and that I had started a scarf, she says, "Well I could've taught you! Why didn't you ask me?" Well, because I didn't know you could knit! Grandma, don't keep any more of your wisdom a secret from me. :-)

Good for you, Hannah--I remember you saying somewhere that you wanted to learn how to knit and now you did it! I also learned from Stitch 'n Bitch, with the help of a few friends with whom I know get together to knit every other week. Enjoy!

I first learned to knit from my grandmother some years ago. But then she passed away and I didn't keep it up, and while my mother knits, she doesn't knit continental, which is what I learned from my grandmother. So then I learned again after last Christmas, when I recieved "Stitch 'n Bitch" - I love the way it's written and it got me all excited to knit again.

That is so cool! I learned from a former friend in college. Then my coworker showed me how to do it again. So far just on scarves. Both my grandmothers can crochet. Have fun!

haha! that's too funny! I don't know how to knit or crochet, although I would love to learn. It seems a little overwhelming to me, though.

I can crochet, but mainly the basics. My grandmother taught me. When I would visit her in the summer, I would tag along with her to her "Knit and Crochet Tuesdays" with the old ladies from church in their Parsonage. That was where she taught me. After reading this post, I am very glad of that, and it makes me appreciate that special memory with her.

well... when iw as younger my mom use to knit up a strom and i usually tag along with her to her knitting group but as i got older she stop doing it and the craft was forgotten. i started knitting 2 years ago, just with scarves, and my mom was impressed and i asked her to teach me how to knit dolls and she said "i havent been knitting in along time and i kinda forgot how to do it" its sad though. but i learn it from a piece of paper that i bought for a dollar at the craft store and learned how to knit in less then an hour. eheheh... so far i have 2 basic knitting books and i am interested to see whats in that stitch and bitch book. i want to have a knitting club here but i cant seem to find girls that want to do it. :*)

Oh, hey I learned from my mom - and we also did a needlework (knitting & sewing) course at school, it was compulsory. Oh and you were right about the scarf thing, it does get cold at night during the winter.

Wow, that's very impressive! I took a class to learn. How are you liking it? I'd wanted to learn forever, and when I did, I discovered that I'm not sure I really like the process as much as I thought I would. Possibly because I'm not very good at it. Like yoga.

I love knitting! But I go through spurts where I'm into it, and then I'm not. I learned from my Mom when I was 4. I used to knit barbie doll clothes & outfits for my bigger dolls. My paternal Grandmother was a big crocheter but I never liked crocheting. I just use it for embellishing my knitted stuff. Have fun knitting!
