About a week ago I got a bug bite on my ring finger on my left hand. I thought nothing of it at the time-- it was just a small red bump that itched like crazy. I'm used to bug bites afterall. Bugs love me, they always have. I always get all the bites, no matter who I am with. My family has joked that it's good to have me around because when I'm there, the bugs never want them. If this gives you any idea how loved I am, I got 22 bug bites a couple of weeks ago in a 2 hour period. Anway, this particular one on my finger itched and I assumed it was a little mosquito bite, but now, almost a week later, it has spread on 3 fingers and it's full of pussy blisters. (Am I totally grossing you out? If I am, sorry). Anyway, I was worried about leaving the country with this infection, so I spent 2 hours at the doctor's today. Turns out I have some sort of secondary infection. The doctor put me on antibiotics for 2 weeks and gave me a topical cream. She said they've seen a lot of infected bug bites this summer and that mine should heal within a week, but not before the people of South Africa think I've brought some terrible skin disease into their country!
Wow! Just what you want to deal with right before your big trip! But better to get it all taken care of beforehand.

I am of course just kidding! Don't be silly chicky, you can pick up far worse things here...AGAIN I'm KIDDING!! Funny you mention bug bites but I'm also a homing beacon of sorts for mosquitoes, and my hubby just laughs while they leave him alone...must have something to do with me having really great tasting blood or something.
You are the 3rd persons blog that I have checked out and everyone seems to be traveling. The farthest I have been this summer is across town. It was well worth the trip. I would love to go to another country like you are going to. That has to be the best being able to travel to other nations. I have to take my family to a far away land one day.

Posted by: girl from florida at July 7, 2005 08:41 AMHi Hannah!
Thanks for visiting my site the other day.
My mom is just like you. Bugs love her so much and she is totally unhappy about it.
Only 3 days to your big trip? How exciting! Have a great time in South Africa! (I wonder if they have more mosquitoes there...) ;P
I totally feel your pain! Bugs love me! The other night I was standing in a parking lot yapping and got about 7 bites! And they weren't mosquito bites either. Grrr...
