Dreaming about Nurseries

My sister thinks I'm weird. Last night we went to see "The Constant Gardener", which I loved because it took place in Africa. Rachel Weiss was pregnant in the movie and these cute, little African children made her a mobile out of bottle caps for her nursery. She had many African things in there, which I thought was cool since we are thinking about a safari-themed nursery for our Africa-conceived baby, and also because Africa is very special to us. I feel like I lived out a dream there, just before settling down to be a real adult with a family. Anyway, I loved the mobile and my sister said she thought it was odd I'd hang trash above my baby's bed. OK, granted, she has a point, but I suppose this further proves that I have some bizarre, cultural tastes. I have been asking myself why I didn't pick up something special for our nursery when we were in Africa, trying to conceive. I suspected I could be pregnant. Darn.

Ok, so tell me, do you like the African safari theme? We're not talking like Noah's Ark animals, I am thinking more of a safari theme with some enlarged, framed photographs from our trip that mean a lot to me (I can't take credit for this idea, I believe it was the brilliant idea of Pink Sun Drops and Lisanne). In fact, here are some of the ones we are considering. Thoughts?

Oooh, I LOVE the idea of an africa inspired nursey theme! Is there anything that I can send you from here? I promised you I'd send you something for the bambino - so here's your opportunity to let me know if there's anything specific that you'd like? Otherwise I'll just use my initiative and send you something 'Africa-ey' ok?

I love the theme you have picked out for the baby's room and I think exotic things would look awesome in there. Bamboo and etc..would be awesome. It is all in how "you" want to decorate and not what anyone else wants. I think the bottlecap mobile is cute. I can't wait to see this nursery!

I would do the same thing in a heartbeat! What a fantastic idea. There are zillions of nurseries with the same kinds of themes and mobiles -- way to do something different. You just never know how you might inspire that little one.

Great pictures. :)

I love the giraffe and sunset photos! At the rubber stamp show that I attended this past weekend, I saw a wonderful giraffe rubber stamp and thought of you and your South Africa scrapbook. I *almost* bought it but then wasn't sure if you were into rubber stamping. I have a *great* gift idea for you and your little one for Christmas ... I can't wait to give it to you! :) Hey, check out my blog ~ I have a theory about your pregnancy, LOL! :)

That is a wonderful idea Hannah. To create a nursery that reminds you of a place where your baby was conceived. I am sure you can purchase lovely items from African websites.
Also that crib set you posted about a few weeks back would work well for a boy or girl.

I think it's an awesome idea!!!... well I should since I live in South Africa LOL It's special and has a lot of meaning for you and will for baby too one day. South African people are extremely creative with what other people would call "trash"

BTW I got your blog link from Brain bubbles :)

I love the safari theme idea! We were at Disney's Animal Kingdom last weekend and it got me in the safari mood. I'm sure you'll come up with some very cool things!

Ooh ooh I love when people use my ideas and I love that you're going to do your baby's room in something that means so much to you. I love the giraffe, the african tribal one, and the one of you two by the sea.

You reminded me of all your gorgeous photos and I went looking for the link but couldn't find it in the archives. Me thinks I have another great idea - what about a link to those gorgeous photos in your side bar?
