snot machine

Poor Olivia has her first cold. It was bound to happen, and I guess we're lucky that she was 6 and a half months old before ever getting sick. I guess I was hoping she was still protected since I'm still nursing. I'm guessing she picked it up at the doctor's office. I let her play with some toys in the room when, at the time, I kept thinking I shouldn't. She was crying though from the shots, and when she reached for the toys, how could I refuse? I guess I'm paying for it now.

She is so sweet and is still smiling through her sickness, but I can tell her little nose hurts. I can't imagine having a cold and not being able to blow my nose!!! She keeps wiping her nose all over me. You know, being a mom is pretty amazing. I don't even care. I find myself wiping her little nose with my hand and wiping it on my pants (nice visual, I know), but I just don't care. Nothing about her bothers me. Well, I have to admit, the poop she had today was unpleasant-- the worst yet in fact. What a difference real food makes. This thing was F-O-U-L! I'm not even sure how it got so messy. One second she had nothing on her and I was starting to change her, and the next, it's like it squished out everywhere. She had it in her arm pits and even on her little nipples. Crazy!! After 2 baths (let the water out of the first, and re-filled the tub) and cleaning products to get the changing table clean, we are in good shape.

I hope the cold doesn't last too long. She's taking cold medicine and we're using that "little noses" saline spray. She doesn't seem to have as much of an appetite. She didn't want her cereal this morning, but she wants to nurse a lot, so I'm not going to worry about it.

We tried peas! Pictures later and a VERY funny story.

Hope everyone is having a good Sunday!

Hope she gets to feeling better soon...(Me too! )

I enjoyed the pics... Glad things are going well for you as "mommie". Just know that you are missed on a daily basis at work.

The first cold is hard, and so are all the others because we hate seeing them sick! It's normal for them to want to nurse a lot and not want to eat a lot of other food. It's great for them since breastmilk is considered a clear fluid so they're flushing their systems. Plus, they're getting you to make antibodies for them. Did you elevate the head of her mattress a little (for draining) and use a humidifier (for moisture)? Amelia thinks the aspirator is fun - I think because of the sound it makes. Good luck and I hope she's better real soon!

Aww, poor Olivia! I hope she feels better very soon! It's tough seeing our babies sick! Kendall has always been like Olivia~even though he's sick, he still smiles :) Get better soon, Olivia :)

Isn't it terrible when they get sick? You just watch them breathing all the time (especially if their noses are blocked - at least OB's is running - so that stuff is coming out!). My paed gave us the best nosedrops in the world for when that happens. Two drops in each nostril and the bubby's sinuses clear right up for a couple of hours. I *SO* know what u mean about wiping it with your hands though - it's like WHO CARES!?

Hope she feels better soon.
With solids, the poop eventually gets better. It stinks, but it's solid, so can't travel quite so easily. At least that's been my experience.
