9 month appointment

Thank you so much to those of you who have left me reassuring comments and sent e-mails. I can't tell you how much they mean to me. I know in the scheme of things, my problem is small, so I'm trying to be thankful for Olivia's health, and just how lucky I am to have this precious baby. It's just during these times when I'm sleep deprived, and I'm looking at big, dark circles under my baby's eyes, this whole sleeping thing seems so hopeless!

Olivia's 9 month appointment went well, but the pediatrician couldn't give me a magic answer. He said that he recommends I try to get her more used to her crib. He said he'd leave her in there everyday to play, and let her cry if I have something I need to do. Maybe I'll try to play with her while she's in there so she gets more comfortable in there, and hopefully we can put her to sleep in there at some point. He recommended a book to help me, so I'll check it out.

Something completely shocked me at today's appointment. Olivia has barely gained ANY weight since her 6 month appointment. In 3 months, she hasn't even gained a full pound! With all that night nursing (she nurses 6-8 times in a 24 hour period) and the baby food, cereal, and gerber puffs, I thought she'd be 20 pounds, but she was only 18 lbs, 3 ounces with a diaper. The doctor wasn't concerned. She's so active and really slimmed down when she started crawling. It's just odd because I've always thought of her as such a big baby, but I guess she really isn't anymore. Weird!!!!

In my effort to focus on the positive, here are some pictures from this week of my wonderful Olivia! Oh, and yesterday, she yelled "nose!" and pointed to the boy's nose in the book we were reading! So smart! She now will point to all the facial features when asked. She might not sleep, but she's my little smarty-pants! Hehe!

All ready to go out gorcery shopping with Mommy!

Helping to brush her hair. After I brush it, she takes it and helps. See how fast she's going? :-)

Today, while I was getting dressed, Olivia decided to open up Daddy's sock drawer and throw all the socks. Oh, and excuse the mess. It's not mine. That's the hubby's side of the room.

Really cute pics of a very clever little girl. About the sleep. Man I have been there and still some night I am. I still wake up at least 2 times a night with Zander. I can't CIO either. I just can't, even sometimes I feel maybe I should just to get sleep. But you know what? Someone once told me that we aren't only moms during the day. WE have to be moms at night to. We won't let the them CIO when they get hurt or are hungry during the day, so why should we let them CIO at night.
Anyway them saying that kids need to "learn" to sleep. Crap. My two eldest sleep just fine and goes to sleep on their own even though they co-slept

Loved the pic with the hood! Such a priceless expression. Hope crib time works out for all involved.

Great pics. I'm with you on the sleeping issue. Now that Landon can stand up...its just too hard to leave him standing there in his crib crying, so he's been sleeping with us lately. Got...to....break....the....habit. But they are just so sweet, I hate listening to them cry, when I very well know that I would love to be snuggling too!

Good luck!

You know, Lucas's growth seemed to slow down a little bit around Olivia's age, too. I think that it's because they all of the sudden get *so* much more active!

I freak out about Lila's weight too. I have to remember not to pay too much attention to the pounds; they say that if the percentile isn't going down then they're OK.

Amelia was 18lbs 9oz... they are SO close in size- and I am totally not that worried about it! Olivia is so healthy.

I'll offer you my tidbits about sleeping. I am still not sure what I'm doing, I'm obviously just learning! H helped me SO much with the sleeping- he let Amelia cry for a MAX of 15 minutes during the day during her naptime. I cannot stand to listen to her cry that long. I just can't do it. But it worked amazing, glorious wonders. I actually just posted this, but now she just falls right to sleep. It's the weirdest thing ever. My SIL did a full-on CIO and her boys fall asleep instantly as well.

Now. I swore I would never do CIO and I still can't hear her cry. I am just so sensitive to that, it really upsets me and stresses me out.

I agree with your ped- let her get used to her crib! I let Amelia chill in hers while I did laundry, etc. Then I read somewhere that you shouldn't let them "associate" it with playtime, but whateveR! It worked just fine for her. She also has her little soft cuddly huggie thing she absolutely must sleep with, or else! Does Olivia have a blankie or something she loves? Amelia instantly goes for that and sticks her thumb in her mouth to sleep.

I wish I could give you more advice, sorry if this comment totally sucks. I'll just pass on what I do, and you keep passing on what you do (like how the heck Olivia is so advanced with words!! Holy cow!!) and hopefully we can learn from one another!

HUgs, sweetie.

I'd try the suggestions the dr. gave you~maybe that'll work~maybe she just needs some time to get used to her crib. Good luck~I'm thinking about you & saying prayers for you :)

Do you have one of those crib toys like the aquarium or bird thing that she can play with? That helped Amelia a lot as part of her bedtime routine.

I hope the sleeping gets easier for her. Hey maybe that's not really dad's mess, maybe Olivia made that mess too ;)

Cute pics! I'm curious - what book did your dr. recommend? In my days of sleep deprivation I read a lot of books but the one that helped me the most was "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child."
