Since I forwarded my mail to my parents', none of my catalogues are coming. They aren't 1st class, so they don't get forwarded, or something like that. Anyway, I love looking at catalogues-- during a rare leisurely bath, a quick trip to the bathroom (hehe), or when Olivia is snoozing. My usual favorites are Pottery Barn, Anthropologie, and probably Pier 1, but I know there are others out there I'd love and don't know about or haven't thought to order.
When I forward my mail for the last time, to my new house, the post office lets you choose what catalogues you'd like to start receiving, and they arrange it for you. Neat, huh? I love it! They're like magazines, but FREE. :-) Do you get any catalogues in the mail you love to browse through? I love home decor, but I'm up for anything.
While we're on the topic, what magazines do you subcribe to? I let a couple subscriptions lapse, and I'd like to maybe subscribe to something new. Currently I get: Mothering, Kiwi, Cooks Illustrated, Saveur, New Beginnings (for LLL members) and I recently got a free subscription to Organic Gardening because I saved all my yogurt tops and sent them in. :-) What magazines do you love?
As I get older, I find myself liking brighter colors. I don't feel the need to "play it safe" and go with neutrals like I always have. So, if for some reason I can come up with an extra $550 (not likely), I am sooooo buying this!

I might have James to contend with since this is so bright, but I think this is an argument I could win. Would you like a new longer ladder, honey? Or another power tool to add to the million you already have? Done! Now if I only had the money. *sigh*
I think I need a rug to go under the dining room table we're ordering. Do you always put a rug under something for a hard wood floor? I know you can put those padded things under the table legs, but is it better to have a rug? If so, I LOVE these:

These are from Pottery Barn, which is a bit pricey, so it's more likely I'll be choosing from the best of what Target has to offer. That's ok though because they have some pretty ones too, they just probably won't have the same life span. Oh well. Gotta cut corners somewhere.
I'm so worried about being able to fill this house with furniture and pretty things. I know it'll take time and money. I think my pregnancy nesting instincts are making me want to finish everything ASAP, and that just won't be possible. Besides, I want to shop around for the right things, I just know once Baby Boy comes, I won't have the time to browse around Pier 1.
I have GOT to order this Gingerbread nightgown for Olivia to wear on Christmas Eve (and before that of course!)

This site always has the cutest shoes!!

Olivia used to have the ones with the lambs on them, but she outgrew them. Although she mainly wear "walking" shoes, these are so comfy around the house, or somewhere like the mall where it's safe to walk in thinly soled shoes.
On Saturday, I FINALLY used a gift certificate I received last Christmas to get a massage at a place called Heavenly Hands. My grandma had heard about the magic this woman works, so she got everyone in the family a gift certificate for a one hour full body massage. She's been bugging me to use it, and I'm sooooo glad I waited until now because I have never needed it more. My back pain has been almost intolerable. I forgot to mention that the results of the discogram I had showed an anular tear, which means the fluid in the center of my discs is leaking out into my back, causing me great pain, so you can imagine how great the massage felt! Her hands were like magic. After the massage, she asked me if I had been in an accident, and when I said yes, she told me that she hoped I had gotten some good money out of it because she could tell the extent of the damage just from that one hour. We haven't settled yet, so I could use your prayers about the whole settlement mess, which will be over by Febuary, exactly 2 years after the accident.
My mom has her massage right after mine, and then we had lunch at a local favorite around here, Country's. Later, my parents took Olivia out to eat and back to their house while James and I went to our first movie in a year. We saw Rendition, which was quite good!
It was a great day! I can tell you one thing, I will definitely be treating myself to more massages. I am in so much pain from the accident, and I am constantly carrying a toddler and lugging around a huge diaper bag (I seriously have everything but the kitchen sink in there and I can't seem to do without anything). I just want to treat myself while I'm pregnant. Although I don't feel as sick, I can already tell that my back is going to be an issue, so I want to take care of myself.
My fingers are so completely swollen. I had to take my rings off a couple weeks ago. Is it possible to be swollen this soon? I haven't had my first appt yet, but I hate to call just to ask about my fingers. I doubt I'll hear the heart beat at my first appt. I'll be 9 weeks, so I think that's too soon. I guess I'll hear it at the next one.
I am so curious as to what this one is. If it's a girl, I think I'll be relieved because I already have one and I have all the stuff. If it's a boy, there will be a moment of "oh crap! What do I do with a boy? What do I do with his penis while I change his diaper????" and then I think I'll feel excited because I'll be experiencing something different. We don't really know what we'll name either one, but it's already fun to talk about it. We don't agree on anything this time, so hopefully, when it gets closer, James will give in. :-)
Just had to share: Olivia is saying sentences all the time now. The other day, the check-out lady asked me how old she was, and I said, "18 months." She said, "What? 18 months? I just heard her say a whole sentence! She's amazing!" and I felt sooooo happy! :-) She asks questions, sings songs (not the whole song of course) and answers me in 4 words sometimes. She's great with pronouns too. She referred to my sister's bf as "him" and she differentiates between "that" and "those". I love this age!
When my money from Payperpost comes in, I am soooo buying these Robeez!!!

Here's list #863 of things I'm currently crazy about. :-)
This candle from Yankee Candles. Oh my gosh!!!! Could my house smell any better???

In my efforts to have less toxic chemicals around Olivia, I picked up this book. It's packed with ways to clean in a more environmentally friendly way, but most importantly to me, ways that are safer for Olivia. I don't want her bathing in harsh chemicals or eating off of surfaces with chemical residue, so I've been buying safer ones (Citra-Solv, Seventh Generation, Ecover) and when there isn't a reasonably priced available alternative, I've made some of my own using the recipes in the book. Why buy Cleanser (which burns my nose when I use it) when I can scrub by bathtub with Borax or Baking Soda? (ok, the slightly crunchy part of me is totally coming out right now!!!) :--D

I can't believe I haven't mentioned my bible study. I've been meeting with a group of amazing, spiritually uplifting moms for the last couple months. We meet on Thursday mornings in a chuch nursery where our babies can play and we can study and vent! The book we're currently reading-- "Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World"-- is amazing. I'd highly recommend!
I am so enjoying watching Olivia become a true toddler. I love all her new words and opinions and how much she makes me laugh! We brought my mom some lunch today and my mom said to Olivia, "Do you know how pretty you are?" and she replied, "I know!" HA! She says crazy things all the time. And she speaks short sentences now every day. This child is amazing. :-) She really knows her own mind. Last Saturday we went to a party, and she was upset when she found a bow in her hair (and also she was really sleepy). She's so funny!

This cereal, Banana Nut Crunch. It's been around for ages, but I have a new found love of it and have started buying it again. Problem is, James eats it too fast and I barely get any. :-(
I have been using Bare Escentuals make-up FOREVER, but I don't know that I ever blogged about it. Sadly, I suffer from adult acne and this is the best coverage I've ever gotten! It doesn't feel heavy and gross like other foundations I've tried, and it's better for your skin.

And you know what else I'm loving? All the fall shows coming up!!! Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Nip/Tuck. *fingers crossed that Olivia will actaully GO TO SLEEP at bedtime!*
In this day and age of e-mail and all things electronic, there is something still amazingly exciting about getting real, live mail at your house! I especially love it when that mail is coming in the form of a package! Harry Potter is supposed to arrive today (I might kill the folks at Am@zon if he doesn't), as well as other various stuff, like a free case of red tea which a wonderful company wants to to try out and review. Yipppeeee! I also ordered some stuff for O, which I'll blog about later.
I seriously thought about NOT going to my BFing playgroup this morning so I could be here when the mail came. Pathetic, I know. But since I'm not that big of a loser, we're headed out. Send me mail vibes!
I love doing these lists of things I'm enjoying. I used to do these way back when I first started to blog (more than three years ago!) but haven't done them too often. Here's another!
I LOVE this coconut milk lotion by Fresh Body Market. Their products are all natural (they're also Vegan if that's something that appeals to you). This lotion smells just like the tropics!

I simply adore my KitchenAid mixer. James got me the Pro size and I use it all the time. Now, if I only had enough counter space to leave it out all the time!

I've also been really into baking muffins lately. They're a healthy quick snack before my morning stroller exercise. I've been putting flax seeds into them lately (and when I bake bread), but I think my latest favorite is soy flour. It's important to get some soy in your diet and this is a great way. I love white flour, but there isn't much of anything good in it. I think my favorite muffin right now are pumpkin soy muffins. Yum!

I hit my stupid toe again (the one that the nail ripped off last year and later required some minor sugery), so definitely no flip-flops for me. I've been cheating and paid the price. My sweet grandma bought me these. They're kind of like sandals, but my poor toe will be safe. :)

Oh, and I'm especially loving the gorgeous peach roses my hubby surprised me with this evening! He said that a beautiful girl deserves beautiful flowers. I think I'll keep him. :)

I once asked a man I was talking to how many kids he had. He said, "how did you know I have kids?" I said, "Dude! You have a minivan!" I think I made him feel totally uncool.
You know, I used to drive my mom's mini-van in HIGH SCHOOl before I bought my own car. I thought I was totally uncool, but then my friends figured out it was really cool because we could fit more people in the car. I totally pimped that thing!
This morning at playgroup, some of us got into a discussion about cars and making the transition to a minivan, something I SWORE I would never do but have recently considered. (Oh no! I've totally become a mom!!) MF says she'll consider it once she hits 30, which I guess is her scary age. Mine is 35. Besides, I know I'm cool and no minivan is going to take that away from me!!!!! :)
I love my SUV, but it isn't nearly as roomy as I expected it to be, and if I had two carseats in the back (which is a possibility sometime next year), there isn't room for anyone else, much less all the crap I carry around with me: jogging stroller (it's a pain to take it out and put it all the time), regular stroller, high chair cover, shopping cart cover, diaper bag, etc. Maybe a minivan is practical? Or if we hit the jackpot, a 3-row SUV would be nice! But they guzzle gas!
I was wondering, what kind of car do you drive?
(I drive a Saturn Vue)
If you could drive ANY car, what would you get?
(A LandRover would be nice, but condsidering I have a family, I'd like that new 3-row Saturn SUV)
If you're a parent or plan to have kids, would you/do you drive a minivan? Does it make you feel un-cool?
Jessica tagged me. :-)
1. I am obsessed with all things South Africa. It is the most beautiful country I've ever seen (and I've traveled a lot). I felt a strong connection with it and it "spoke" to me. If I don't go back someday I'll die.
2. When I was in college, there was a teacher who hit on me every single class. He used to hand me little notes telling me how hot I was. I never reported him because I was too scared.
3. Before James, I dated this guy for over 3 years and I still don't know why. He ran hot and cold and was so moody. I think I must've enjoyed the challenge. He was unattainable.
4. I think I am mildly OCD. If I break a nail, I have to immediately cut the rest of them so they are all the same length.
5. I like to have my feet tickled. I bribe James with all kinds of things so he'll tickle my feet.
6. I've had surgery 4 times.
7. I have 200 varieties of tea in my tea chest.
I'm tagging Rebecca!
I haven't done a post about things I love in a while, so I thought I'd follow GFF's lead!
I'm addicted to these Soy Crisps. They say you should have some soy every day! My favorite is BBQ!

Now here's something even more yummy than BBQ soy crisps, Jonathan Rhys Myers! James and I are really into this show. I'm interested in British History from this time period (studied it at my semester abroad at Cambridge), but I also like looking at King Henry. My mom once commented that he looks like I guy I dated. Weird. James thinks he's ugly, and although I don't find him techincally attractive, there's just something sexy about him. Can't help it.

There's nothing like using this Eucalyptus Spearmint Aromatherapy shampoo after I'm hot from running (or looking at Jonathan Rhys Myers), or after a long day. It makes my scalp tingle. :-)

I adore this magazine. Afterall, I didn't name my blog "teatopia" for nothing! This month's is all about spas. Ahhh...how I'd love a day at the spa, but my check book won't allow it.
While I'm on the subject of tea, I love these Tazo® Green Tea Frappuccinos. I love matcha, but these also have a melon-like flavor. Perfect for the hot weather we've been having.

Since I don't have as much time to cook as I used to (a combo of having a baby and James not being here much), I love these crock pot meals by Banquet. I love my crock pot, and these are so easy!

This guitar is Olivia's current favorite toy. She likes to try and imitate the sounds and it keeps her busy when I have things to do. I love it because it makes her so happy. Her face lights up whenever she sees it!

I'm a bit late on the whole de-lurking thing. The truth is, I'm kind of scared to do this because I'm worried I won't get any love. So if you would, please let me know you're reading. I see people from all over the world on my stats. Who are you? :-) I'd love to stop by your blog if you have one, so leave your url. Let me know if you link to me so I can add you to my blogroll! Thanks for reading!
Hugs,
Hannah of Teatopia
Tonight I caught the end of "Never Been Kissed". In the movie, she finds the love of her life in the 6 months she spends posing as a high school student.
During every commercial, these guys discussed the movie (one of those 3 guys and a chic flick things), and they posed this question: is it really possible to find the love of your life that quickly? To me, it's more of a question of, do you believe in love at first sight? Can you "just know" when you see someone?
James says that he knew the moment he saw me. It took me a while longer, which is ironic considering I have always been a hopeless romantic and always assumed I'd "just know", but it took me a while. Although, I had just gotten out of a 3 year relationship with someone else and wasn't quite ready.
I met my husband when I was 19 and was married by 21. I always assumed I'd get married after graduating college and living on my own, but I wasn't about to let the love of my life pass me by just because I was young.
I'm not sure you can "love" someone the second you meet them. I think falling in love takes time. I think you can "know" though. I believe that God can show you your destiny. James believes God showed him his the night I came over his apartment to hang out with his roommate.
Well, there you go. That's what I believe. Now it's your turn.
I need your input . . .
I need to get some fall shoes-- something not too dressy, but not too casual. You know, that perfect inbetween shoe. Now, I have my share of shoes in my closet, but one more lovely symptom of my pregnancy I've just discovered is that my feet are bigger. I had this baby months ago, and still, I discover new things every day, like the fact that the inside of my belly button is discolored because it was popped out for so long!
Keep in mind, I'm much more into comfort these days. I WISH I could tolerate all my boots, but they seem to annoy me these days for just every day stuff. I'll save the pain and frustration for when I need to look really hot!!
Ok, here are the ones I'm considering.

I like these a lot because they look cute and comfy, but I try not to follow trends too much and these are kind of trendy . . .

And I like these sneaker-ish shoes.
I also like these. I don't really care for loafers, but these don't seem too loafery.
I seriously hate buying shoes. I used to love it, but these days when money and tighter and time is scarce, it just seems like a chore.
Tonight we went to my parents' for dinner. It was nice to get out of the house after staying in all day with a sick baby. I could tell she felt awful today, but she still smiled at me all day. Poor little thing. :-( She just beamed when she saw her Grammie. Love and kisses are the best medicine, right?
At dinner tonight, we got to talking about moving. We moved here almost 5 years ago from the DC area, knowing this would not be our permanent home. We are planning on moving with my parents in a year or 2 and we've started looking into different areas.
Jennie and I have sent a few e-mails back and forth and I asked her about where she lives in North Carolina. I was asking her if there was a Starbucks there, and she jokingly wrote back that there was, and since we had gotten that out of the way, she could proceed to tell me about the area. It got me thinking about places I couldn't live without. When I moved here, I had to do without a lot, since I was spoiled and came from an area with everything imaginable. Now, in Columbus, we have much more than we did a few years ago.
Ok, so here's my "couldn't live without" list:
Starbucks yes, they're like a cult and they charge way too much, but I can't live without them.
Pier 1 love, love, love their accessories!!! They are super chic!
Target my family calls this "my store", as in, "I went to your store today Hannah and bought . . . " yep, this is soooo my store, and I think they're pretty much everywhere these days.
big chain Italian place like an Olive Garden, Carraba's, etc.
an Indian restaurant and a Thai restaurant: if I was talented enough to make my own as good as they do, great! but I can't.
for the next move, here's what I'd like to have close by:
Williams-Sonoma
Whole Foods
PF Changs
Crate & Barrel
Teavana
What places could you not live without?
I am dying for some fall weather. I love this time of year, and it's still freaking 80 some degrees. Boo hoo!
I am in in fall mode, full force, and I wanted to share some fall finds:
-- I am can't wait to try out this awesome sounding chai recipe. There's nothing like a hot drink to warm up your insides and make you want to snuggle!
-- I love love love sweaters, and even though I can't afford it, I really love this one. Looks very warm and snuggly.
-- This pasta with sausage and sage in a pumpkin cream sauce recipe has been my go-to fall recipe for the last few years. Even thinking about making this recipe gets me all excited! I am majorly cooking deprived these days. It's the ultimate comfort food!
-- I WANT THESE SLIPPERS. It would be cruel not to buy me these slippers.
-- I want to make Halloween s'mores by the fire. Sadly, we have a gas fireplace-- well, not sadly, because it's freaking awesome and we saved for a while to have it put in-- but it does mean there will be no making of any s'mores at our house.
-- And, last but not least, fall means Olivia gets to wear this!
What makes you think of fall?
I decided to add some shows I loved as a child to my Netflix queue. One of my favorites was the series "Avonlea" that aired on the Disney Channel. Did anyone watch it? I am having such fun watching it, even if I only am able to watch it in bits and pieces. I wanted to be Felicity King because I was a hopeless romantic and I loved Gus Pike. For those of you who are not familiar, this series originally aired in Canada, and it was based on the stories of L.M. Montgomery, who wrote "Anne of Green Gables." I also loved "Beauty and the Beast" with Vincent and Catherine as well as "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman".
What shows did you love as a child?

And for my other new found obsession. Have you played with Google Earth yet? Totally addicting! I could even see the umbrellas of the restaurant where we are at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town. Amazing. I have looked up every place imaginable. How cool is this new technology? Check it out for yourself.
When I first started my blog, I told everyone and anyone about it. I was so excited. I thought these babies were the best thing since sliced bread-- still do. My family started to read it and many of my friends too. Back then, I never knew what to write, so I usually ended up choosing impersonal topics about stuff like food, weekend plans, etc. Now that I'm settled into having a blog, it is has become my oulet. I have gotten much more bold in my writing and sometimes it'd be nice to be just plain anonymous. I write about the horrors I sometimes face at my job, my feelings about people. Just the other day I wanted to write something about my boobs, but I worried someone I knew might be reading. My family has commented on things I have written, so I know they read occasionally. Sometimes I feel like saying a bad word (oops) but wonder if I should (I probably shouldn't anyway). I'm not smart enough to check to see where people live who are reading, just to know if any co-workers have discovered my little secret. I open my blog at work, so you never know . . .
One person I know who doesn't often read is my hubby. He knows I tell him about anything worth writing on my blog, so I guess he figures he isn't missing much. In fact, I am thoroughly convinced that I could've been writing about a passionate affair for the last 6 months and he'd be none the wiser. I knew this one girl whose husband didn't even know she had a blog, so when she suddenly stopped writing and disappeared, no one was able to post as to where she had gone. I still worry because she had some health problems. Some of you may know to whom I am referring.
Some of you I know in real life (or have met you), others have become dear friends through the blogging world and we communicate often. Some of you, well, I don't even know your real names, but I love ya anyway!
I am curious, how anonymous are you in the blog world? Do you share your name (first and last)? Do you just go by a screen name? Does your spouse or family know about your blog?
This should be fun to answer!

We had such a busy weekend that I forgot to post!!! That's not like me as you all know. Ok, to sum up the time since I last posted:
*Friday felt like the last day of school for the whole year. (well, technically it was, but I mean the whole school year. These kids had no fear and didn't care about getting in trouble). The kids were nuts, but I did get some nice gifts and ate too many sweets. I've been trying to be careful because I've heard the more sugar you consume, the greater the change of getting gestational diabetes. No thanks!
*Friday night we went to a fabulous party at the nicest country club in town. The owner of James's company is an avid golf player and always holds the company Christmas party in the ballroom there. I didn't do much dancing, and unlike GFF who danced the night away, people actually asked me why I wasn't dancing. "Isn't exercise good for the baby?" Yes it is, thank you, but not for my aching feet. I wore gorgeous, but somewhat uncomfortable pointy-toed heels and I wasn't about to take them off, only to rip the bottom part of the only pair of maternity stockings I own. No thank you! I also wasn't feeling espcially well, as evident by the fact that I puked my guts out when I got home. Damn acid reflux. And it didn't help that everyone wanted to give my belly a good rub. Not welcome when you are nauseated.
*Saturday, James took me to lunch at a local cafe called Jumpin' Java. We enjoyed chai tea lattes, sandwiches, salads, and we split some veggie sushi. Yum! Then, we went to a wedding and I burst into tears as soon as I saw the bride walk down the aisle. I think I made a fool of myself, but luckily, my hubby had stuffed tissues in the pockets of his new suit knowing that is overly-emotional pregnant wife might just burst into tears at an inappropriate moment. In my defense, the friend who got married lost her first husband a few years back and never thought she'd re-marry. I was so happy for her, and for her young daughter who now has a daddy. Ok, about to cry again. *sigh*
*Saturday night, we ordered Subway and watched "The Skeleton Key" which I really liked. We had a fire going and the tree lights on and it was wonderful. Sadly though, we learned that night that some friends from church lost their 20.5 week pregnancy. The baby just couldn't breathe, even with help. This news even brought a tear to my husband's eyes (James, are you reading this? Can I admit that you cried on the internet???) I think it hit close to home for us since she was only a few weeks behind us in her pregnancy. Her baby was just born too soon. :-(
*Sunday morning we went to church, and I led my first ever Sunday school lesson in our adult class. It amazes me that I can teach middle schoolers just fine, but get really nervous teaching adults. After church, we had lunch with some other couple, and one couple has a 3.5 month daughter. I think James and I spent most of the lunch fixated on the baby, both thinking that ours will be here in no time flat. Which leads to Sunday afternoon. Clean, clean, clean! I worked James's butt off. He's on a break from his master's and this is the only time. You wouldn't believe the amount of stuff waiting to go to Salvation Army. When and how did we accumulate so much??? It feels good to be getting somewhere finally. We cleaned closets, James's office, and got rid of a lot of stuff from the baby's future room. I also dusted and cleaned everything in the kitchen and living room. We even cleaned the bathrooms.
Today I am off, but certainly not free. I dropped my dogs off at the vet this morning for a teeth cleaning (what a way to spend $400) and then paid bills and finished Christmas cards. Now I'm about to create my menu for the Christmas Tea I am hosting Wednesday evening and go mail some stuff. I'm also going to bake more fudge-- some for James's co-workers and some for the tea. Check back later for the menu.
Today my mom took my sister and I for tea at our usual spot, Rose Cottage. I also got some Christmas shopping done and cleaned the house a bit. Now I'm home, waiting for James to get here. He is working on his master's degree and his professor scheduled an exam for this afternoon on his off day. Poor James. :-( I am here, catching up on e-mail and feeling little wiggles here and there in my belly.
I am hoping we'll go out and do something tonight. I have been feeling kind of restless and I really hope James will be in the mood to go out, especially since I'm wearing my cute maternity shirt-- the kind that ties in the back-- and some cute pregnancy jeans. This hot mama wants to show off. Now if we only had somewhere fun to go . . . there is nothing trendy or neat in this town.
For some odd reason, I have been completely excited about Chistmas today. I know, it's a bit early, but after catching the second half of "Elf" last night, I have been thinking about things like cookie-baking, our annual Christmas Eve party at my parents' and fun traditions like the Christmas in the South craft fair we attend each year (it's only 6 weeks away!) and the big lights show my family sees. It is my favorite time of year and I am just so excited. It's not too far away really. Actually, there are a number of things that have me dreaming of Christmas a bit early this year: a great recipe for sausage balls I saw on the Food Network the other day that would be just perfect for the Christmas Eve party, the release of the dates for the craft fair, making plans with James's family for us to come up the 26th. See? I'm not completely nuts. :-)
And what got me the most excited? James's comment about how much more pregnant I'll look by Christmas. :-)
This weekend has been nice. We had some GREAT Korean food on Friday from one of our favorite restaurants. The food tastes just like it did in Korea. Then, we went home and watched Crash. I'd recommend it. Saturday, I had lunch at a Thai restaurant and then went to a house warming party with my sister. It was for a friend of hers (but I was invited too) who just got married and his wife just found out she's newly pregnant. She's only 19! He's 24. I can't imagine having gotten pregnant any sooner than I did. That's so young these days. I am so thankful for the experiences I was able to have before deciding to have children. For some people, doing it sooner is ok for them, but I knew I wanted to travel first and I'm so glad to have those memories. :-) Anyway, today, after church, I came home and crashed for a while. Then, I dragged my butt to the store (James had to go into work this afternoon) and bought a big frozen pizza for tonight (yum!) and stuff to make chocolate chip cookies. :-)
I am not looking forward to going to work tomorrow, but I guess the sooner I do, the closer I'll get to another weekend. I live for them.
What did you do this weekend?

This summer I have some good books lined up: the Tea Shop Mystery series by Laura Childs, some great books on the Chinese cultural revolution by Anchee Minh, and another by Sydney Sheldon. I enjoy reading a variety of books. I thought I had enough stocked up for our trip since we'll have a lot of travel time, but I've gotten to quite a few of them. So . . . I am asking for recommendations. What have you read that you really enjoyed? Help me out here people. It's gonna be a long flight! :-)

As most of you know, I am a total foreign film buff. I love 'em!!! James, on the other hand, is not quite as fond of them. However, now that it's summer, I'll have time to watch them on my own. Any recommendations? What foreign films have you seen and enjoyed?
Lisanne tagged me, so here goes . . . This wil be fun!
If I could be a musician, I would create music for movies. I have always loved soundtracks and when I listen to music (any kind), I often picture what kind of scene it would go with.
If I could be a missionary, I would hopefully be less prissy so I could travel to exotic places to spread Jesus's love. I'm not one to "rough it."
If I could be a chef, I would work in an Asian fusion restaurant, creating the asian foods I love while still being up on the latest trends.
If I could be a librarian, I would enjoy the serenity and solitude of a quiet work environment at first, but then I'd probably get bored and lonely. I would, however, never get bored with all the books!
If I could be a writer, I would write travel books after visiting the countries I wanted to write about.
I am tagging Girl From Florida because I know hers will make me smile. Choose 5 from any of these below and pass it on:

Recently, I subscribed to a few food magazines: Bon Appetit (I re-newed this one), Saveur, and Tea Time. I also have been reading Gourmet Magazine because Anthony Bourdain now writes for it. He was the chef who did the series "A Cook's Tour" on the Food Network. He also is an amazing author, writing with both sarcasm and a kind of hidden compassion if that makes any sense. Anyway, I have also been enjoying some travel magazines too, like Travel and Leisure.
I was wondering, what magazines do you read/subscribe to? And please don't hesitate to respond if you are one of my dear South African readers. I love purchasing magazines abroad and I'll look for it when I'm there-- same goes to any reader from another country. I love foreign magazines. :-)

How cute is this? I am thinking of ordering a few different kinds of herbs to use in various dishes. I love cooking with fresh herbs and these bags are too cute.

My mom and I are planning on visiting the World Market in the next couple of weeks. It's about an hour and a half away and its merchandise represents over fifty countries. I especially love these asian-inspired prints. Our house doesn't really have an Asian theme, but we do have some pieces. It is, after all, a continent near and dear to our hearts. James used to work there a lot and we do have family there. Not that any of that matters-- I'm sure I'd still have the same adoration for all things Asian!

I love Dove soap. Even when I was a little girl, I loved staying with my grandma every Saturday night because she had Dove soap and I loved the way it felt on my skin. Luckily, I married a Dove fan, so we are eager to try this new Dove with green tea.

I did something I've almost never done. I've seen three movies in 24 hours! It started last night with "Constantine" which was pretty weird. Then this afternoon I saw "Hotel Rwanda." I haven't seen all the academy award contenders, but if this film doesn't win something there's is no justice in the world. What an incredible film! GO SEE IT! Then tonight we saw "Cursed." Ok, let me just say that tonight there was the rudest audience I have ever seen. I was sexually harrassed by these high ghetto guys sitting next to us and I called one of them a "jackass" before decided it probably wasn't the safest thing to do. People were yelling at other people to shut up only be be told "f off" and other pleasant things. It was BAD. Why pay money to see a movie when you're going to get up 50 times, miss half the movie, and then talk on your cell phone? Stay home!
But on a better note, I am completely floored after seeing "Hotel Rwanda." I watched a special about the genocide about a month ago-- before hearing about this movie and now I want to learn more. I think I may try to find a book on this. Why didn't anyone help? If you want a good read about people who do help those affected by genocide and massacres, read Angelina's Jolie's notes about her travels. All I can say is WOW!

Although my birthday isn't until Sunday, I have had so many warm wishes and surprises at work today. When I came in my room this morning, there was a present waiting for me on my chair. It was a teapot in the shape of a school house with apples and teachery things. Very cute!!! My friend Rebecca sure knows me. :-) Then, during 2nd period, Rebecca sent the cutest 8th grade boy to sing to me. All my girls were dying over him. What a cutie! Then, during 3rd period, she sent another adorable boy to sing to me who is in a national boy's choir. He was really, really good! Then, during 4th period, my friend Ben set up part of his orchestra in the hall and they played "Happy Birthday" to me. They were wonderful!
And tonight James and I are meeting friends for dinner at an Indian restaurant. I still have bronchitis pretty bad, but if anything, the spices will help my nose clear out. Our friends have never had Indian food before, so it should be interesting to see what they think. Indian food is not for everyone.
The compliment of the day: "Hannah, your shoes are so Carrie Bradshaw!" Why, thank you says Hannah in her bright pink ballet strappy shoes.

Is this not the cutest purse? I'm hoping to get it for my birthday (Feb. 6) I know it's kind of funky, but I would carry it with pride. :-)

I am a fairly conservative person and I used to think badly of Sex and the City. For one thing, the women sleep around, something that is completely foreign to me. Lets just say wearing white on my wedding day really meant something to me and actually for James too. :-) And although it's a decision many friends could not understand, we're glad we both made the decision. So you get the idea that I'm kinda innocent. Anyway, I just thought Sex and the City was a bad influence promoting something no so good. But then my friend Rebecca insisted I borrow her DVD's on Seasons 1 & 2. I became totally addicted. And I learned that although the show promotes behavior I don't agree with, there are valuable moments and lessons and I can relate to something about each woman on the show. I begged to borrow the others, and I watched up to season 5 last summer. Rebecca gave me the last one a few days ago and we watched it last night during the freezing rain we were getting. I was so touched and moved by the last episode. I'm sure I'm like the last Sex and the City fan to watch this episode but let me just say it was worth the wait. Everything worked out as it should have and it was completely believable.
Charlotte: Found Harry (who grew on me) and got her baby. This touched me because we want to adopt from Asia too and when they got the photo of their baby, I cried. (Even James was teary-eyed).
Miranda: Sceptical, Cynical Miranda has the husband, house, kid and a dog and the process of aquiring these was completely believable. When Magda watched her bathe Steve's ill mother, I cried again. She has grown so much as a person.
Samantha: She looked fabulous even through the cancer. I loved the various wigs. When Smith came back and her flowers were blooming, symbolizing the changing of the seasons, and then they made love and he told her he loved her--aaaah!--tears again!
Carrie: What can I say? She ended up with Big (although I would've been just as happy if it were Aidan, if he wasn't married), and most importantly, she went back to NYC to her apartment, friends, and column .
Now when are they making the movie?

This is the only present I know for sure that I'm getting. I picked it out last week at The GAP. It looks good with my light complexion. I don't look particularly good in white, but this cream colored coat is fabulous.
I love my husband. I mean I really love him-- with all my heart. I miss him tremendously, but I must admit that it's kinda cool to be independent and do some stuff on my own while he's in sunny Floroida. Tonight I did something I haven't done much since I got married-- I went out in mixed company without him. It's not that I couldn't before, I always want him to be there, but it was kinda fun to go alone with friends from work. I am happily married, but I think everyone enjoys a certain degree of independence before they tie the knot, and I tied it earlier than most. :-) This week, while James is away, I have been thinking about how blessed I am to have married young. I am blessed to have found my soulmate so early in life. I will enjoy so many years with James. He brings me more happiness that I can put into words. But-- it is always important to maintain a strong sense of yourself and to grow on your own as well as with that other person.

I am loving these new True Temptations candles at Bath and Body Works. There are some unusual scents in this new line and I really want this buttered mashed potatoes candle for Christmas. I also love the mint chocolate chip ice cream scent. Yum!
I love Wednesdays because we have ghost night. After this season of Nip/Tuck ended, we had no shows to look forward to until we discovered the ghost night series on SciFi, a channel I had never really watched. There are 3 main shows we like: Ghost Hunters where these guys investigate reported hauntings, Proof Positive where 1 out of 3 supernatural events is proven to be true, and Scare Tactics where people set up other people to scare the crap out of them. I always look forward to Wednesdays.
And since I don't have work tomorrow, I can stay up late to watch Iron Chef! :-) Poor James, however, has to go to bed because he takes the GRE tomorrow for his master's program. Good luck, hun!
This is just for fun. I love coffee and I love peppermint-- so this works well for me. :-)

I have always loved Origins' products. I am really wanting this Balinese Body Scrub for Christmas. Just listen to the description:
"To escape to paradise: Step into the shower. Scoop into hand and swirl over dampened body skin. Feel how kindly Coconut Shell Flakes softly polish shoulders, torso and limbs to a gentle glow. Enzymes of ripe Papaya cast away dryness and flakiness. Satiny Soybean Extract nourishes, softens and smoothes. Catch the unmistakable aroma of fresh-cut Pineapple and Orange and suddenly you are standing naked beneath a languid tropical waterfall. Lush flowering branches fringe vast spans of deep turquoise sky. To return to civilization, simply rinse."

I was looking at our pictures from Korea last night, and this one really stuck out. This plant in Korea was growing delicate, beautiful, little lanterns. I would love to have a plant like this-- so exotic!
Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?

I have been thinking about buying a small coffeemaker to take to work and I saw this one at the Sanrio store yesterday. Is this too babyish to take to work? (I'm sure my students would love it!)
I have always loved chapsticks, especially in the winter months. I love various scents and flavors. When I was little, bubblegum was my favorite. Today, I use all kinds and I often have more than one in my purse. Here are some different kinds I thought were neat!
-- Nature's Gate Organics Lip Balm, Green Tea & Mint
-- Kiss My Face Certified Organic Lip Balm, Ginger Mango
Now this is the quiz for me! Check this out to see which chef on the Food Network you are most like.
I honestly hoped I was most like Rachael Ray-- not because I'm quite that perky, but because we seem to have similar cooking styles and tastes. Also, I've been convinced for some time that if I knew her in real life, we'd be best friends! In fact, the only reason the quiz matched me up with Sara Moulton was because EVERY question on Rachael Ray was about being spunky or zany. It's not a perfect quiz, but it's just for fun! Sara Moulton is pretty damn cool too though.

After hearing about Stef making her own Chai, I decided to make some of my own. I have been thinking about it for a while and never realized how easy it is. Afterall, I've been drinking Chai for almost a decade! I picked up this book at Barnes and Noble and I plan to try a recipe or 2 this weekend.

Yesterday, James and I drove up to peachtree City, just south of Atlanta. We went to a nice, trendy, little shopping center where we visited the following shops:
Yankee Candle: I bought this wonderfully fragrant Peppermint Cocoa candle I have been wanting for a while. It was a seasonal item last year and I never was able to find one. It smells so good. I burned it last night. Good news: we're getting a Yankee Candle here in Columbus.
Teafusions: our favorite tea shop. I had a cup of cranberry tea and James had the usual (chai). I purchased an ounce of China's best golden monkey, an ounce of rooibos chai, and Mo (the owner) was kind enough to give us a sample of the latest tea, Cookies and Cream. Yummy. :-)
Williams Sonoma: lots of yummy samples. We bought olive oil with garlic and chunks af asiago cheese to melt on top of crusty bread. We also got some good, old-fashined waffle mix.
Starbucks: picked up some dark, exotic, Indonesian anniverary blend.
It really was a good day. :-)
Although our trip is not for many months, I am already making mental lists of things I'll need. We will be going during the winter (their winter, our summer), so I will need some warmer things. I'm sure when we're on safari it'll be hot being out in the sun, but I'm sure when the sun goes down, I'll need to keep warm. I also need some nice outfits for at night when we're out on the town-- Capetown that is! Here are some things I'm looking at ordering:
This scarf made of Italian silk. I think of rich, British women in 19th century Kenya when I look at this scarf.
Some waterproof hiking boots. I may find something more feminine to actually order.
This nice wrinkle-resistant Oxfors tunic. A nice basic, white shirt to wear either buttoned, or left open over another shirt. This with a pair of wrinkle-resistant khakis and hiking boots really makes the ultimate safari outfit.
This very cute zebra bag.
For those of you who don't subsribe to Daily Candy-- you are missing out. I look forward to reading mine every day. You can sign up for them to e-mail you that day's topic or you can simply check the site yourself. They often have blurbs about beauty and fashion and also tea and coffee.
Just check out the site the daily Candy referred yesteday-- Fauchon-- a French complany selling goddies such as biscotti, tea, coffee, and preserves (the rose petal preserves sound great!)

Leave it to me to choose the weirdest shoes possible. I am all about comfort, and things that are just slightly different that what the average person is wearing. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to think that I'm pretty much in style. I shop at places like Old Navy, Gap, and Ann Taylor Loft, but when it comes to shoes, well, I like 'em fun!

I decided to brighten up my table with some herbs from my garden: rosemary, lemon balm, and mint. Stef was kind enough to leave me her lemon balm since she couldn't take it, so now I have a wonderfully fragrant centerpiece for my table. After searching for a small vase, I decided to use a Starbucks Frappaccino bottle with the labels peeled off. Lovely, I think.

So how harmonious is your home really? Take this feng shui quiz to find out!
I bought these fun Steve Maddens at a 4th of July sale. I've been eyeing them for a while, but that 50% off really caught my eye! Lately I seem to be on a funky accessories kick. I'm pretty conservative in the way I dress, but in the past few months I've bought some kinda funky shoes, earings, and scarves (I have adored scarves ever since I studied abroad in Europe). I've never really cared what others think, but I hope these shoes aren't TOO funky. :-) They are so comfy and cute!

I found a website where you can design a picture of yourself on Bethanie's blog. This sorta looks like me I suppose. My hair is more of a medium blond, but this was the closest I could find. It was kinda fun and you can choose from quite a few features. It's hard to see, but there's a Mayan pyramid in the background called Chichen-Itza. We honeymooned in Mexico and had the chance to climb this big baby!
If you want to try to design a cartoon you, just click here and have fun!
I got this from Stef who got it from Mlle A who got it from someone else and I thought it was neat.

Well, we're back from our trip to Florida only to leave for Seoul tomorrow night. Whew! What a whirlwind week! We had a wonderful time and did almost every we had hoped to do during our stay. Here are some pictures from our trip. I will have more to post when I come back from Korea because some of my food pics were taken on my sister's camera and she's still at the beach. Actually, we had a nice, big group. We went with my parents, sister, and her friend, who really came as we were leaving. We stayed in a nice house with a beautiful view. We didn't want to leave early, but we have another adventure to come . . . But I do miss my family!

I am blogging from sunny Florida where we just returned from renting a speedboat! We flew through the choppy water, screaming and laughing. It is always the highlight of my trip every year. If you've never been on a speedboat, you must because it's better than any roller coaster I've ever been on! I've taken several pictures since we arrived, but I don't have any way of importing them onto this laptop my sister owns, so I will post pictures tomorrow evening when we get home.
So far, we've been to Joe's Crab shack to eat coconut shrimp, we've gone shopping, bought produce at the markets, gone to the movies to see Troy, and cooked out on the grill. Tonight we're off to a Thai restaurant and then to tea at Magnolia and Ivy. You can read about them and order tea here.
After a rather depressing entry on Friday, I am pleased to say that things have gotten much better. I had a good weekend. On Sunday, we went to Atlanta with Stef and Mike. They were going up there anyway for Stef's training, and we decided to hang out Sunday. We followed them up to Peachtree City first where we stopped at Tea Fusions, formerly Teavana of Peachtree City. As soon as the shop's new site is up, I will put the link on my blog. We enjoyed some lovely tea and Stef and I bought a lot to take home. Our husbands just watched as we bought more and more. (They think we have more than we could ever drink) Then we went to a Vietnamese grocery store where I finally got my Vietnamese coffee maker I've been wanting. Yeah!!! Then we ate a nice lunch at Penang, a wonderful Malaysian restaurant. Next we went to Ranch 99, an Asian market with lots of goodies. Stef was very helpful at Ranch 99. Although I knew what I wanted, I wasn't sure where to find it all. I bought lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime leaves, more tea, tea candies, and much more! Since then I have been able to make some good food I couldn't make before. Sunday night, after leaving Stef and Mike in Atlanta (lucky them), we came home and I made Tom Kha Gai. Then tonight I made a nice red curry. And I didn't mention all the wonderful tea we've been drinking. :-)
My new Vietnamese coffee maker making yummy coffee:
Thai Red Curry:
Yesterday we went to Peachtree City and Fayetteville with Stef and Mike. First we visited Starbucks along the way and then we went to the World Market. I bought some Moroccan Tea Glasses while I was there. I have been wanting some for a while.
The guys spent some time looking at electronics while the girls shopped at the World Market. I was in heaven there. Next we went to Peachtree City and shopped around. We visited Williams-Sonoma before eating a wonderful dinner at Thai Spice. Pictures of our yummy dinner can be found on Stef's blog. It was a wonderul day full of great company, fun shopping, and lots of yummies!
